Next Academic Session in Gujarat will feature NCERT text books in Maths and Science

Next Academic Session in Gujarat will feature NCERT text books in Maths and Science

From the next academic session, Gujarat Education department is all set to replace the math and science textbooks of the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) with the books from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The books of the above mentioned subjects will be introduced in all the 58,000 schools across the state on pilot basis and only for classes from I-XI. Earlier, the decision was to introduce the books in all the schools affiliated to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) in a phases manner. However, the new decision of the education department will now impact 1.15 crore students of the state. “Since these subjects (mathematics and science) are relevant in view of the national entrance examinations like Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), it makes sense to replace the GCERT textbooks with the Central board,” Gujarat State School Textbook Board (GSSTB) chairman Nitin Pethani said justifying the Education Department’s decision. The idea of replacing the GCERT books with the NCERT books came into existence after viewing the poor performance of the students in the national exams. As a result, NCERT textbooks were introduced in the 57 schools — government and private included but when the same batch of the students appeared for the exams there were confusions all over. “Out of all the 11 districts where the pilot scheme was launched, 21 schools in Surat district had requested for the CBSE pattern exam. The remaining 36 schools wanted the GSHSEB exam pattern but based on NCERT syllabus. Since it was a pilot scheme with no conditions attached, the state education board had accepted their requests,” said GSHSEB Chairman A J Shah. Such multiplicity lead to confusion in conducting the exams and the challenge for the education board now is to streamline the evaluation process.

JEE Main 2018 fake news: CBI registered FIR against the website

JEE Main 2018 fake news: CBI registered FIR against the website

On Wednesday, CBI filed FIR against a website, which circulated the notice that some questions in JEE Mains 2018 exam were similar to the questions in the 2016 mock test questions of the Narayana Coaching Centre. The FIR was filed against the owner of the website with the DCP (Crime) Delhi Police Headquarters. The name of the website is cisthetaglobal.comOn Wednesday, the board clarified that all the questions were original and were set by the examiners only two months ago. The JEE question paper, a senior CBSE officer said "contain questions that are picked out of question bank containing close to 1,500 original items. The question bank is prepared by over 100 experts and each question is handwritten. After that, 90 questions are drawn randomly from the bank and eight to nine sets are created. After this, the moderator even makes handwritten changes to each set. Then anyone set is randomly picked for use in JEE and sent to the confidential printer". Asking people to not pay heed to “falsities”, the Board's statement said, “CBSE reiterates that all these 7-8 questions were originally written only about two to three months back and they cannot and could not have figured in any model paper by any coaching institutions two years back. There is an atmosphere of falsities and rumors mongering being deliberately perpetrated against a prestigious organization like CBSE."An HRD ministry official said "There seems to be a conspiracy to create panic and we are trying our best to defeat that. The latest rumors on the JEE (Main) examination appears to be a case of rivalry between two coaching centers with one trying to tarnish the image of the other with the fake news".

CBSE paper leak: Girl admits jotting down the questions

CBSE paper leak: Girl admits jotting down the questions

A team of Delhi Police questioned a class XII student on Tuesday who had allegedly written the questions of the class XII economics paper. Rakesh Kumar along with two other teachers of the private school in Una district dictated the questions to the girl.According to the police, after the girl jotted down the questions, Kumar clicked the photographs of the handwritten sheets and sent them to a relative in Chandigarh and from there it spread on 40 different groups on Whats App.According to the sources, the girl was questioned in front of her parents at her residence in the Una and she confirmed that Rakesh Kumar dictated the questions to her. “She told the police team that her teacher asked her to write down the questions, but she did not know he was dictating from the original question paper,” said a police officer. Rakesh was appointed as a center superintendent, in-charge of taking the examination papers to the exam center. This gave him access to the papers which he then leaked in order to help a girl who was weak in studies. The police took all the accused to the UNA where they reconstructed the scene of the crime and also questioned the employees of the bank where question papers were kept.“Police have collected the official document through which the principal had appointed Rakesh as the centre superintendent. The post of center superintendent is looked after by the principal, but if he nominates someone else, he has to intimate CBSE in writing,” said an officer.
