Digital solution from Microsoft will prevent the CBSE paper leak

Digital solution from Microsoft will prevent the CBSE paper leak

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) came under heavy criticism from entire nation when its class 10th and 12th question papers got leaked and the the children had to pay the price. In order to prevent such mishaps from happening again, CBSE has forged a partnership with the Microsoft who will develop digital solution for the CBSE in order to prevent such leaks. Microsoft has already developed an encrypted security solution for the CBSE which caters to the 20299 schools of the nation. “We have developed for CBSE an innovative solution which makes question papers leak-proof until 30 minutes prior to the start of the examinations,” Anil Bhansali, Managing Director, Microsoft India (R&D) and Corporate Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise, told IANS in a telephonic interaction. “But if the question papers get leaked after they are allowed to download (just half an hour before the start of the exam) due to some bad actors, the system allows easy traceability as question paper for each center are watermarked,” Bhansali said. At present the solution is in testing phase and has passed its first pilot run with flying colors. The first pilot run of the encrypted system was run in July during the compartment exams during the digital question papers generation and their delivery was successful at 487 exam centers. Using the system, the examination controller is able to track the entire process using the software solution built on Windows 10 and Office 365. The overall process is encrypted and uses two factor authentication for the extra security. Examiners are required to identify themselves before they can download the examination papers. “The system allows various authentication process. For example, it can be OTP (one-time password) based or bio-metric based. It is up to the clients what two authentication process they want to choose,” Bhansali added.

I am 78-years old and I am still a student : Vishnu Swaroop Saksena

It was JNU’s second convocation , where Vishnu Swaroop Saksena, a 78-years old education enthusiast was conferred with the Ph.D. degree. He enrolled at JUN after he retired in 2008 from his service. He began his research ‘the trail of two ancient scripts - Brahmi and Kharoshti’ in 2012. "As a student I welcome the move of convocation as it gives us a platform to receive degrees formally. It was my first ever degree as I could not receive my Bachelor's degree," said Saksena. Studying at the age of retirement was fun and a completely new experience for him, he said. "I enjoyed talking to people and reaching grassroots during my research. It provided me with first hand information on ancient history," he says. Talking about his experience at the JNU he said that adjusting in the college environment was easy for him because JNU has a very open culture. "I love the openness with which the university functions. Teachers were accessible and I learnt a lot. I enjoyed knowing new things, poetry and discussions around literature. Even after getting the degree I feel that I am still a student, still a learner," says Saksena. "I had a great time because I studied to learn with no agenda in mind. Everyone should enjoy their studies and should not aim for anything else but knowledge," he says.

Sources at the HRD ministry said that the idea is up for the discussion and its feasibility from the implementation point of view remains to be seen. As of now, the proposal suggests that JEE Mains exam should be used to classify all the candidates into 10 groups. These groups will be divided on the basis of marks range and the students in one group will be treated as equal. While JEE Advanced is proposed to be scrapped, premier institutes can still admit the students from the top most range without any further tests or interviews. The proposal suggest that IITs forgo their B.Tech degrees and instead provide one semester experience to the 8 times the number of current candidates they accept for the B.Tech courses. Admission to this semester long experience will be done in 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters of the B Tech program. The selection criteria for this is not specified/proposed yet. These selected students may charged upto INR 2 lakh for the IIT experience. Banks can provide the loans to the students and in special cases they can also provide collateral free loan. Students who will spend a semester at IITs will get their degrees from the universities which will explicitly mention the fact ‘IIT semester experience’.

Delhi HC demanded a response from the AAP government over Admission norms

Delhi HC demanded a response from the AAP government over Admission norms

The Delhi HC demanded a response from the APP government over the issue of not admitting the students who have not scored a minimum of 55 percent marks in the class 10 exams conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Justice Siddharth Mridul was of the view that AAP government should not adopt a policy of exclusion in the matters relating to admission in Delhi government schools. The court asked the government for a response as to why these students are not being given admissions in the schools run by it and listed the matter on August 13. The court asked that where these students will go to pursue their education if the government denies them the admission and also raised a question on the upper age limit of 17 years as prescribed by the government of admission in class 11. A plea, regarding the same, was filed by an NGO Social Jurist against the circular issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) in which it laid down the condition of minimum 55 percent marks in the NIOS class 10 exams. The plea contended that the DoE decision was "arbitrary, irrational, illogical, unconstitutional, violates the petitioners right to education and was against the public interest".
