No-detention policy will be re-introduced after systematic changes in the education sector: Manish Sisodia



In a series of tweets, Manish Sisodia lauded the move to remove the no-detention policy as it was hampering the education system of the nation. But, he also said that this should be re-introduced into the system after making systematic changes in the education sector. He also called for the changes in the coursework, assessment methods and curriculum currently followed in the schools. In his tweets, he highlighted the need of an changing the entire education system of the nation and said that the no-detention policy can make its way back into the system only after all the changes have been done including revision of the curriculum, change in teaching systems, training of teachers etc. "The teacher who is teaching the subject does not keep learning outcomes in mind and rather his or her mindset becomes captive of the questions asked in last five years in the subject. We must change the approach towards the exams; they should be based on learning outcome," read one of his tweets. He also pointed the need to introduce changes in the NCERT books as challenges faced by the society are not the same as decades ago and curriculum in the books should be changed to meet the demands of the modern times. "On the same lines, we must make changes to our NCERT books so that our future, so that our kids are more equipped to excel in the world," he said. A bill to remove the no detention policy was passed in parliament on Thursday. Under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2019 no detention policy was scrapped in order to improve the learning outcomes of the education in school.
